Mekia Cox has been cast in NBC's spy drama "Undercovers."

Cox will replace Jessica Parker Kennedy on the highly anticipated J.J. Abrams series. She'll play Lizzy, the younger sister of the female lead, who is unaware of her family's involvement in the CIA.

Mekia was most recently seen on The CW's "90210" and in the Michael Jackson documentary "This Is It." She's repped by Global Artists Agency and A Management.

"Undercovers" is produced by Warner Bros. and Bad Robot and is considered one of NBC's frontrunners in the fall.

1. Abrams feels the need for speed: In a note to the reader, the authors admit that the script is long but feel that it shouldn't be judged by something as arbitrary as page numbers. "The pace of the series is intended to be unusually, almost unspeakably, fast." In fact, they go on to write "imagine scenes MOVING LIGHTNING FAST."

2. The script opens with action. Spy Leo Nash is being chased by three darkly dressed armed men wearing faceless opaque masks. Through the chase scene we discover that the bad guys speak Russian. Leo appears to know who's coming after him, and he calls someone and leaves a message telling them "CALL. YOUR MEN. OFF." and "My offer is real."

3. A computer file is key to the mystery. During the chase scene, Leo transfers a file to a "SHINY TOY ROBOT THUMB DRIVE" and hides the thumb drive when he believes the gunmen are about to catch up to him.

4. When it comes to our heroes, she's tightly wound, he's more laid back: Samantha and Steven are retired spies who are married and own a not-so-successful catering business. She's the chef, he's the business man. She nags at her slacker sister, Lizzy, who works for her in the business. Steven says, "If we were a nonprofit we'd be very successful." When we meet them they are preparing to cater a wedding.

5. Carlton Shaw, aka the cynical CIA agent: Shaw approaches them to return to the spy business (and he's appropriately played by Gerald McRaney). According to the script, "Shaw could gut you faster than you could soft-boil an egg." He tells them he's been with the Agency for 32 years.

6. Steven's spy bio: According to Shaw ... "Steven Bloom, Los Angeles native, UCLA graduate, joined Central Intelligence in '97, following your brother, who's been with us since '89. You've been stationed in Korea, France, Hong Kong, Singapore, Germany, you've run six major-board operations in Europe and Asia. Expertise: combat, cryptography, communications and security tech. You now oversee the business end of a catering company."

7. Samantha's spy bio: According to Shaw ... "Samantha Bloom, born Samantha Gilliam, New York City, attended Columbia on scholarship, Language Studies. Played lacrosse, rowed crew, job with the UN week after graduation -- the Agency had an eye on you, with a year, we'd recruited, trained, and sent you undercover to Europe. Four years you worked eleven countries, then a three month mission in the Middle East. Skills: burglary, disguise, translation. And today ... you're a chef."

8. It all involves something called Operation Black Swan: "An ongoing mission to find and capture Alexander Slotsky. Weapons dealer, blackmarket ..." Leo Nash was running the operation on his own when he went missing. Samantha was the last agent to work with Leo on Black Swan, and Steven trained with him at "The Farm."

9. Our heroes get pulled back into the business: They are unable to resist one more mission either because they want to help Leo or due to a Shaw speech about patriotism or for the lure of spy excitement.

10. They have a cute "large mutt" of a dog named Waldorf: Enough said.

NBC has issued its first scripted series pickup for the 2010-11 season with the order of the drama “Undercovers” from acclaimed writer/producer/director J.J. Abrams (“Star Trek,” “Mission Impossible III,” “Lost,” “Alias”), it was announced today by Angela Bromstad, President, Primetime Entertainment, NBC and Universal Media Studios.

Undercovers - Carter MacIntyre Joins the Cast

Carter MacIntyre has joined the cast of J.J. Abrams' NBC drama pilot "Undercovers."

"Undercovers," from Warner Bros. TV, revolves around Steven (Boris Kodjoe) and Samantha (Gugu Mbatha-Raw), a husband and wife who are re-activated as CIA agents after years of retirement.

MacIntyre, repped by Henderson Hogan and Magnolia, will play a CIA agent with a drinking problem who goes "missing" while trailing a Russian arms dealer.

In addition to Kodjoe and Mbatha-Raw, MacIntyle joins previously cast Gerald McRaney, Jessica Parker Kennedy and Ben Schwartz.

Abrams co-wrote "Undercovers" with Josh Reims. Abrams also is on board to direct, marking the first pilot he has helmed since "Lost" in 2004.

Soul Food grad Boris Kodjoe has landed the male lead in J.J. Abrams’ new husband-and-wife NBC spy drama The Undercovers, sources confirm.

Kodjoe will play Steven, the sharp, smart, and very attractive half of the show’s central couple.

Earlier this week, Gerald McRaney was tapped to play the CIA operative who serves as the duo’s boss.

Still to be cast: Steven’s wife, Samantha.

With the final season of Lost kicking off in just eight weeks, we're already feeling preemptive J.J. Abrams withdrawal symptoms. (Never too early to get started!) Fortunately, we’ve uncovered some top-secret information about Abrams's newest TV project, Undercovers. The lighthearted series about married spies that he's developing for NBC (wait, they’re still making shows?) has been described as Mr. and Mrs. Smith meets The Bourne Identity, but it's sounding more like Alias meets Hart to Hart to us.

Sources tell us that the underwraps show (co-written by Abrams and Josh Reims, who worked together on Felicity and What About Brian; pilot to be directed by Abrams) is about husband and wife Samantha and Steven, who met as fellow spies, left spookdom to run a catering company, and have now been called back into service. But, according to one source familiar with the project, Abrams and Co. have been stressing that unlike Mr. and Mrs. Smith, this is a happy, loving, bantering couple who never once even consider killing each other. "They’re as likely to make a marinara sauce together as they are to bug an embassy," said another source who has read the script. Ah, so it's Alias meets Hart to Hart meets Live! With Regis and Kelly! (Warner Brothers TV, which is producing the pilot, did not respond when asked for comment.)

The pilot mission of our spies/chefs, who previously made a pact not to discuss their pasts, is to hunt down a possible former flame of Samantha's whom the CIA thinks has gone rogue — but we all know to prepare for a plot twist. And that’s not the only complication: Samantha has a screw-up sister who works for the catering company. As the couple spends more and more time away from home, she has to take on a bigger role in the family business, according to our sources. So we recalculate: It's Alias meets Hart to Hart meets Live! With Regis and Kelly plus Rhoda Morgenstern’s sister, Brenda.
